Painting exhibition “Inspired by Russia” opened at RCSC

     A Painting Exhibition “Inspired By Russia” by eight participants of the first-ever Art Camp “Indian Artists Paint Russia”, held at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture (RCSC) in July 2011, was opened on September 14, 2011. The Exhibition, jointly organised by the RCSC and the Forum of Indian Photographers and Artists (FIPA), will continue in the premises of the RCSC till September 30, 2011.

The participants of the Exhibition, whose paintings on display, are Ms. Padmini Mehta, a Bachelor of Arts in Painting, freelance artist and designer, Ms. Bhoomika Jain, B. Sc (Hons) English & Music, singer with AIR, Ms. Amandeep Kaur Bakshi, a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Diploma-holder in Photography, Ms. Vinita Vasu, a Graduate from Delhi University with Training in Applied Art, Mr. Vimal Mehta, President, FIPA, Mr. D.P. Srivastava, an Expert in the field of Fine Arts, Portraits and Landscapes, Mr. Cliff Gabriel, a self-taught Artist and active Organizer of Group Shows, and Mr. Charan Singh, a self-taught Artist and Organiser of Art Camps.

In her welcome address, Ms. Yelena S. Shtapkina, Deputy Director (Culture & Information), RCSC, noted that such an exhibition of unprecedented nature will provide enormous opportunity for both amateur and professional artists to demonstrate their artistic skill and bring to the fore the Russia of their own perception. She said that such exhibitions will find a place in our cultural centres in Delhi and other Indian cities in the future. She lauded the sincere efforts taken by Mr. Vimal Mehta, President, FIPA, in translating the novel idea of an  art camp on Russia into reality to the greater benefit of aspiring artists.

Ms. Tatyana Perova, Head of Russian Language Teachers’ Training Centre, New Delhi, described the works of Indian artists as commendable. Congratulating the fine works of artists on display, she noted that it is interesting to watch different facets of Russian life through the paintings of Indian artists as they perceive them.

Expressing gratitude to the RCSC for providing a suitable forum for the display of Indian artists, Mr. Vimal Mehta pointed out that the Exhibition helped a lot in encouraging the talent and creativity of artists catching their imagination. He added that the Exhibition provided more scope and exposure to artists through further interaction and exchanges.

Mrs. Surjit Akre, President, Roerich Art Club, and Mrs. Lyudmila Chakravarthy, Russian Artist, complemented the Indian artists for their excellent work.

Certificates of Merits were distributed to the artists in appreciation to their talent, creativity and performance.
